I always hear people say "I want to lose weight/bodyfat ASAP". Well that is all good and well but we have to remember that just losing weight doesn't make us FIT. It is better to focus on getting fit first and the weightloss and body composition changes will take care of itself.
Most people start workout programs with high hopes but often get discouraged when they are not seeing the results they desire. Honestly the reason they aren't getting results is because they give up on the program before it has had time to work. If you are consistent with your workouts and your diet you WILL see results.
Here is a good explanation of Beachbody programs
by Steve Edwards, Beachbody Fitness Expert.
quote:
"Calling it a fitness program, as opposed to a weight loss program, is essentially trying to put that message out there. It often is a weight loss program, but there is a big difference between X and our other programs.Power 90, Sin6 et al are ALL fitness programs. Fitness is what we're interested in. We need to sell weight loss because that's what the public wants to hear but with us you get fitness. Of course, they are not exclusive. Some people need to lose weight in order to get fit; others don't. All of our programs are based around fitness. The difference is that with X it's very important not to undereat. Not so much with the others. A de-conditioned person may get great benefits from undereating during the initial stages of any of our intro programs. THis is because they aren't fit enough to spend long periods of time above their anaerobic threshold in a workout and in their deconditioned state they don't burn fat for fuel efficiently and training without calories does help to improve this. A common pattern for our intro members is to undereat for a while and then to creep their calories up as their fitness improves. These changes can be drastic. I've seen people who eat 1,200 cals/day for 90 days and need to go up to 3,000 calories before they could MAINTAIN their weight. This is due to changes in body composition. A fit body both can burn more calories during exercise and burns more at rest.In 90X it's more important that you eat enough to recover. If you don't you risk injury and/or chronis illness from pushing your body too hard sans calories. This is why we phase the diet plan. If you want to lose weight than eating in Phase 1 should accomplish this for a while. Adding more carbs to your diet and you feel your energy running low will facilitate your workouts. Finally, we aim for a balance between what you eat and burn.Of course this is different for everybody. Some people will eat less than their calculated amount; some will eat more. All diet variables must be addressed to the individual. So we expect you to experiment with the ranges of the 90x diet. Our main cautionary advice during this program is not to undereat. If you overeat slightly your fitness will eventually catch your nutrition. But if you continuously undereat and ignore the warnings of your body then you will break down over time.
Hope that helps. "
So as you start your day remember good things come to those who work hard. Don't give up and fight the good fight.
